I first started photographing interiors when I was eight years old. I’d recently been sent to boarding school and found my new surroundings very precarious. As some kind of reaction, I began elaborately decorating my bedroom at home and recording the results on a Miranda P700. My cameras and bedrooms have changed, but this sensitivity to spatial environments became the habit of a lifetime. Three decades later, I’m still photographing interiors and architecture – professionally for nearly half that time – as well as other spaces, locations, and my fellow humans as we negotiate such landscapes.

Along the way, I’ve learnt to love many aspects of photography, from the craft to the conceptual. In my commercial practice, this has enabled my appreciation for design to push image-making from illustrative description toward capturing the very essence or feel of a space also. I’m lucky enough to have worked for some extremely talented architects and creatives, included below, in these endeavours.

In my personal practice, the same depth of engagement has allowed for an opposing move – a sharpening of my critical approach to our environments and social structures, in which I’m currently exploring themes of identity and contemporary alienation. Recent projects address this through photographic typologies, focusing on us as ‘consumers’ or ‘workers’, etc, and employing design-led methods such as montage for presenting the work. I also enjoy pursuing documentary subjects that include issues of social justice, the form and function (or lack thereof) in urban environments, and travelogues. This work has been seen in various exhibitions, magazines, websites, and self-published books, as well as the collections of Sir Elton John and the Museum of London.

I’m a graduate of Westminster University’s Photographic Studies MA, and based in London. For commissions, collaborations or just to say hello, please get in touch through the contact page. Price lists and portfolios are available on request. Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you soon…
