Oxford Circus

Oxford Circus is a typology of 24 dissected photographs, showing pedestrians around London’s famous shopping district, caught between the fixed gaze of my camera and the watchful eyes of advertisement models. The work investigates the rhetorics of both fashion and street photography – and hence a tension as old as the medium between the staged and the real, the picture and the document. With a pervasive culture of individualism and consumption as its subject matter, it also reflects on the politics of identity and alienation that such a culture engenders.

“A composite artwork that really translates the isolation in a crowd and the overwhelming scale and power of capitalism.” – Source Magazine 2015 MA Selection
